Attack styles, monster weaknesses, food and the first steps to a useful combat loadout.

Choose a suitable opponent
Click a monster to begin a repeating fight. Right-click it to inspect its loot and combat information. Ordinary monsters have a weakness, a resistance and one neutral attack style. Matching the weakness gives +25% damage; attacking its resistance deals 25% less damage.
Inspect your opponent before committing supplies. Combat level requirements, your current equipment and your food stock all matter more than simply picking the newest visible monster.
Choose Melee, Ranged or Magic
A saved Ranged loadout can supply the required bow when Auto gearsets is enabled and the set is usable. Check the Equipment panel to confirm which loadout is active.
- Melee is available from the beginning and trains the Melee skill.
- Ranged opens with Fletcher's copse. You must equip a bow to use it.
- Magic opens with Moonlit glade. You need the chosen spell's level requirements and runes.
- A spell normally consumes one matching rune when the attack is prepared, unless a rune-conservation effect applies.
- Changing styles affects the next prepared attack; a released attack keeps the style and power it had when prepared.
Bring cooked food
Catch fish, cook them at the cooking hearth, and keep the cooked food in your inventory. Eating restores the food's healing value plus your Cooking level, up to maximum health. The Eat control selects the best available food.
When enabled, Auto-eat uses food during live combat below 40% health. Healing potions use their own availability and cooldown rules. Do not wait until your inventory is empty before checking a difficult fight.
What happens on defeat
In an ordinary world fight, defeat returns you to camp, restores health and takes 5% of your gold, rounded down with a minimum loss of 1 gold if you have any. Your levels and inventory are retained.
Treat a defeat as a cue to check your equipment, food and the monster's resistance. Instanced encounters can have their own recovery rules.
Ranged also helps outside combat
Ranged levels 20, 40, 60, 80, 99, 110, 120 and 129 each add a passive +3% Hunter and Trophy Hunting work speed and shorten Sailing sea-monster events by 5%. These milestones stack.
At Ranged 99, that totals +15% hunting work speed and 25% shorter sea-monster events. At 129, the totals are +24% and 40%. The benefits come from the skill level: they do not require an equipped bow or a toggle.
